Willimantic is part of a traditional New England and along with preserving those traditions comes the constant attempt to stay part of contemporary growth and progress. This creates some interesting changes. Sometimes it is less impressive than others. The first picture is a central partking area off the main street in town while the second is a view of the towers on the top of St. Mary's over the roof of the building the community college has just occupied.

On the hill in town there are numerous old colonial houses built in the previous century that are both reminders of the past and attactive parts of the present. Because the soil in New England is filled with stones they are often used as part of buildings and landscaping. Here are two homes at the interection of North and Summit streets.
