A discussion of ServersA very few years ago a company would have one server. Maybe a larger company would have more servers based on the number of employees and perhaps one for each department of the firm. Today, servers are a way of life in themselves. I know of one small company that has only servers. |

In the early days of networking Netware took the lead in the market place and became the dominant force. Of course Microsoft decided they wanted this major market for themselves and the whole Windows NT process started. For compatibility Netware designed servers that would recognize and cooperate with Windows NT and Microsoft included Netware protocols in all their NT products. |

With the Internet, special servers that would serve Internet clients the seven standard protocols had to be designed. Today it is common to have a server for each major task that you want to do in your organization; not just a computer that is a server but special server software for the specific task that machine is doing. You have a server that specializes in printing, another for database management, one for email, one for World Wide Web, and even a server that manages your other servers. This has become so sophisticated that one company now sells a server product that is a combination of a dozen servers. Talk to us at info@thecomputerfarm.com. |
